A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Student Leadership Luncheon/Award Ceremony at my school. On Friday, I went to the auditorium and I received an award for Rotary Interact! I honestly was not expecting it at all. Afterwards, we went to the middle school lunchroom to eat and when I was seated I noticed that there was a boy who was sitting all alone two tables down from me. I waited a little to see if anyone was going to sit with him and no one did. I was present in a room full of “leaders”, but no one took the initiative to include this boy. So what did I do? I excused myself from the table, got up, walked over to his table and asked him to come sit with us. He was hesitant at first, but I would not take no as an answer. We all had a wonderful conversation when we got back to the table. What I am trying to say here is, “be the change that you wish to see in the world”. If you see someone alone, let them join you. If you see someone having a hard time finding their classroom, help them. One act of kindness can make a huge difference.
